Jenkinson - Injury update
Song and Carroll and Sakho are going to get the headlines today but this upturn in fortunes for the Club has as much to do with Jenkinson as the others.

Always looking for a run, always looking to spread the play and his crossing and passing abilities are excellent.

As much as we need Reid to sign a new deal, as much as we need Song to sign on a permanent, we NEED this man to sign a permanent contract too.

Jenkinson and Cresswell are a Full Back double act that will be an asset for years to come.

C&H

…and now for the bad news

At the end of a near perfect day there was grim news for Sam Allardyce after Carl Jenkinson hobbled off in the 79th minute.

And afterwards the manager confirmed that the right back again has a hamstring injury which is the continuing story of the player’s season.

Looking bleakly into the middle distance the manager simply confirmed: “It’s a hamstring.”

The on-loan Arsenal right back was first hit with the same injury in pre-season and was forced to pull out of England under-21 duty against Croatia in October.

Now the player looks certain to miss part of the Christmas programme depending on the severity of the injury which will be checked out over the next couple of days.

It's been clear for a very long time that Hugh Southon is so desperate to be seen as being ITK for all West Ham news that he just makes stuff up. The example below is an absolute corker.

Funnily enough our game was Sunday, not saturday and Nole was not on the bench.

The bloke just makes it up as he goes along.

All well and fine, but what did they LOOK like they were thinking? I like this soap opera method of trying to pretend you have more information than anyone else based on body language.

West Ham are likely to have Carl Jenkinson available for the trip to Sunderland this weekend.

The medics have not made a final diagnosis but are hopeful the player is suffering from “fatige” rather than a e hamstring injury which plagued him earlier in the season.

The on-loan defender hobbled off in the second half of the game against Swansea at the weekend but ClaretandHugh learned this morning that he could make the trip to the Stadium of Light.

We were told:”We think/hope Jenkinson was fatigue NOT a hamstring. We’ll know more as the week progresses.

Both he and Mark Noble could be available for the weekend with our source adding: “Noble is fit. He was on the bench Saturday, but was only just fit and didn’t need to be risked unless there was a real need.

O'brien, along with Cole and Vaz Te, is a Championship player. and just like Cole and Vaz Te will cost us points if he plays. Demel is twice the player despite his age and deformities.

Re: Jenkinson - Injury update
Demel is a decent player, I'd much prefer him to Obrien.

Give me demel in that position over O'Brien!

OK now i know why he looked so miserable at that press conference. It will be a big loss as Jenkinson is an important decent player right now, hoping he is back training soon.

Re: Jenkinson
Hopefully wont be out too long. No disrespect to O'Brien but he shouldn't really be on the same pitch as players of the quality we have now.

Re: Jenkinson
I heard they took him straight to the vets. The vet took him to a 'special place' where defenders get to run around all day and are always happy.

Re: Jenkinson - Injury update
if it's a "tweaked" hamstring it might not necessarily be too bad, especially if he came off the moment it happened

On the other hand this is West Ham where minor injuries always turn out to be major ones!

I think I agree on that one. Very much under-rated, is Jobby.

Re: Jenkinson - Injury update
I also think the way he came off for his substitution it didn't look too bad. Surely during the match I didn't see him clutching his leg, slowing down or something similar.

Might be just a strain, I wouldn't expect Jenkinson to be out for long, maybe sitting out the Sunderland game...

WHOicidal Maniac 7:51 Mon Dec 8
Re: Jenkinson - Injury update
JENKO walked off sort of rubbing the area. Its not like he went down clutching the back of his leg.

He might miss the next game but He'll be alright after a bit of a rub and relax...

DONT PANIC

Re: Jenkinson - Injury update
The Brontesque "Looking bleakly into the middle distance" is all he's offering. He's suggesting it means Sam was grim, so the news is bad. That might be true. Equally it might have been Sam playing poker face until there has been a proper diagnosis, not wanting to dwell on negative things that we know little about.

Don't they usually have to wait a couple of days at least before they do a pukka scan?

Fingers crossed, either way. He's been very much part of the success this season.

Big shame, but at least right back is a position we have less dynamic but entirely capable cover in.

I think I'd rather have O Brien than Demel. He's well overratd and tires too quickly. Stil, he is probably 39

Re: Jenkinson - Injury update
So, to summarise Hugh's 'news' -

Jenkinson went off injured - We know, we saw it.

It's his hamstring - We know, he went off holding it and BFS confirmed it via more reputable news outlets.

He may be back next week, or he may never play football again. It depends on the severity of his injury - Thanks Hugh, where would we be without your invaluable incite into all things West Ham.
